It’s quite simple

“College” is more than just a word. It means community, scholarship and scale. Find a way to incorporate that idea into your interactions with W&M alumni, faculty, staff and students. We’re not looking to antagonize anyone. But to go any further toward “university” as a brand would be a real mistake; if we go too far, we can never go back to who we are meant to be. Here are a few ideas:

• First: there are more important places to devote your time and attention, especially now. That goes for the world, as well as higher education. Do what matters most to you.
• But if you’re sympathetic to this effort: Make sure you mention the importance of “The College” when you make a gift. If the idea of “the College” matters to you when you consider making a gift in the first place, definitely mention that in the Gift Details, too.
• Write the Alumni Association or your local chapter and tell them what “the College” means to you.
• Send us an email with your ideas or concerns.
• Spread the word to your fellow alumni, students, faculty and staff.
• Join the Gale’s Discord channel, and tell us your ideas, which are probably even better than these.
